As an Entrepreneurial Institute, 3E is committed to offering professional development that is responsive to the needs of educators, designed with an eye toward 21st Century workforce expectations, and ever-mindful of the goal to engage and educate all students to reach their potential. The 21st Century Educator Externship course, first launched by 3E in 2006, was developed to assist secondary educators to better understand regional workforce development needs. It also enables them to explore how curriculum can be shaped to motivate students and better align with workforce expectations. In this 35-hour fieldwork experience, educators are partnered with a company/organization whose work is related to the educator’s core content or specialty area. During the fieldwork placement, educators interview and job shadow members of a business team and then connect the interviews and work of the company to the classroom. Participation in an orientation and debriefing session are required.
