Steady Cam

This semester I am teaching a video production class for the Honors College. One of my students is working on a promotional video I we started throwing around some ideas this evening. One idea that seemed to stick was to follow different Honors students around campus as they do what Honors students do. But if we go with this plan we need a way to follow the action without a lot of camera shake. We need a steadycam, but they are expensive. I am big fan of Johny Lee and his solutions to creating cool products on a tight budget. For $14 we can create "the poor man's steadicam". Here are the directions. If and when we build the steadycam I will post pictures and video.

How did your steady cam work for you? I'm doing a production for a class project and I was thinking about buying the pre-packaged kit for 39.95. Seems like a good deal.

The steady cam works great. No issues and much better quality video than hand holding the camera.
